Go Naked Veg opened officially opened its doors at 11am this morning (Tuesday November 17).
The Oban shop, which sells fresh fruit and veg and organic products, aims to reduce plastic waste by cutting out all unnecessary packaging and bags.
Speaking to Oban FM this morning, owner Graham West said: ‘We started just before lockdown just doing online deliveries. So it’s kind of progressed over the period of time.
‘We have introduced lots of new lines and obviously the shop is the last addition to that plan. We are aiming to reduce plastic waste, so none of our produce is wrapped in unnecessary packaging.
‘We have also increased our plastic free non food lines. You can come in and fill your containers up with whole food products.’
When asked how it feels to have a physical shop, Graham added: ‘It’s really good. We are really excited.
‘We would like to thank the support of Andy from BID4Oban and the various people who have helped me out over the last 9 months. It’s been a real progression and the vision that I saw a long time ago has all come together.’
Speaking at the opening of the store, Andy Spence, chief executive of BID4Oban said: ‘I think it’s absolutely fantastic today that another brand new shop has opened in Oban.
‘There’s a lot of hard work been put into this to get it up and running. It’s fantastic to see a company that was working online originally and doing local deliveries now having to open their own premises to meet the customer demand.
‘This is another example of how good the business community is in Oban and we have a lot of thriving businesses, we have a lot of local businesses, and we have got national businesses. It’s so important that we have to support every single one of these.’
Go Naked Veg is located at 51 Stevenson Street, Oban, where Button Nose Boutique used to be.
The business will still be operating online, so if you would like a delivery, visit www.gonakedveg.co.uk.
